SG.GS expands network presence in North America

We’re happy to announce a further extension of our global network, this time in North America. SG.GS now has four more points of presence (PoPs) in New York (Equinix NY2), Ashburn (Equinix DC3), Seattle (Digital Realty SEA10), and Toronto (Coloware YTZ1), signalling our continued growth to position ourselves as a key international player in the telecommunications industry.
The pan-continental expansion comes from leveraging a combination of owned hardware, new backbone infrastructure, and strategically placed partnerships with local providers.
Dave Pumford, International SVP & GM, SG.GS, says:
“We’re addressing the intricate connectivity challenges our customers are facing between North America and Asia Pacific as a friendly and supportive partner. This investment expands us into Canada for the first time and allows us to reach more US markets, delivering on our global business strategy."
Upgrading our network
Alongside increasing our PoPs, we’ve also launched additional subsea cables as part of the infrastructure expansion, connecting via San Jose and Ashburn. All existing cables and backbone are now upgraded with enhanced hardware, boosting service capacity from 10G to 100G, with the entire North American backbone supporting up to 100G capabilities.

These improvements strengthen the SG.GS IP backbone (AS24482), offering you better redundancy, lower latency, and faster communication speeds. We’ve also upgraded and introduced several internet exchanges (IXs) such as Florida, Miami (FL-IX), and New York (Equinix New York) as part of a greater effort to improve our IP route control, cultivate more route diversity, and provide a better experience for our DIA and IPT customers.
Pumford continues:
“Having these extensive upgrades in North America solidifies us as a global player in the connectivity industry, increasing our visibility outside of the APAC region. Our customers include smaller carriers and infrastructure providers that aim to create new international links, so those based in or reaching out to North American markets can now do that more easily.”

A helping hand to businesses
Having new PoPs in these four markets of North America signals a strategic connection to some of the most connected datacentres and ecosystems on the continent. Our global customers can now experience superfast speeds and direct access to major cloud and last mile connectivity fabrics in these highly populated markets.
Shawn Ang, Managing Director, adds:
“Our roots in Singapore give us optimal positioning to leverage neutral connectivity between the East and the West, Singapore is one of the most interconnected markets in the world, and we have built a strong reputation for demystifying Asia Pacific emerging markets for new market entrants with our strong relationships across the region.”
Having strategic connections in the APAC region means we can help smaller B2B businesses expand internationally, enabling them to enter a booming market that represents 60% of the world’s population. This level of connectivity is essential for modern organisations, many of which have remote teams or are working with an international client base. This leads to an increased use of cloud-based technologies to enable business continuity and growth, which is why it’s so crucial to retain a stable network infrastructure.
Making our mark in North America
Pumford concludes:
“This extensive North American upgrade, following our European expansion last year, helps position SG.GS as a true global connectivity provider, we’re fostering better, more open communication between established and emerging markets, ensuring all businesses have the opportunity to grow their reach.”
As more barriers are being built, SG.GS aims to break them down and allow everyone to have access to global connectivity even with complex challenges. We’re fostering better and more open communication link between established West and emerging East markets, allowing all businesses an equal opportunity to expand their reach.
